We stayed in a small holiday cabin in Høynes in the Lofoten for the first week of August this year. Today we planned to use Drijfsijs to get to Kvalvika, a beach on the outside of the Lofoton, which is accessible either by hiking over the mountains or by boat.
Unfortunatley, after rounding the headland we found that a fresh south-westerly breeze had produced some rather intimidating waves. Hanneke didn't like them at all and I was worried that the surf at Kvalvika might be a bit of a handful so we decided to turn back early. Hiking over the mountains would have been a better plan!
The pictures above show the sheltered beach at Sandbotn where we launched the boat.
