Trip from Tromsø to Reinøya

Following a trip to the Lofoton we had a free weekend in Tromsø, as the Karlsøy music festival was on the same weekend we considered taking the boat from Tromsø to Karlosøy, but concluded that the trip was a bit too long - especially as we might want to return quite late in the evening.

Instead we decided to explore the southern part of Reinøya a large (150 km²) island to the north of Tromsø. Although the island is very close to Tromsø the lack of road connection gives it a much more distant feeling. An unmetalled road forms an incomplete ring around the island and provides access to numerous cabins overlooking the shore. Many of the cabins were occupied when we visited, no doubt due to the warm weather.

We landed on a coarse sand beach on the south west tip of the island, pulled the boat out of the water and walked around the quiet ring road as far as Finnkroken.

At the south tip of Reinøya is a small holiday business that rents fishing boats and cabins. I can imagine enjoying a weekend trip to that place. There are good facilites for cleaning fish, a nice barbeque area and an outside hot-tub on the shore right next to the pontoon.
