The weather this afternoon was beautifully still and I decided to take the boat for a trip around Tromsø Island. There are many places on Tromsø where I've stood and looked out over the fjord and I was curious to see them from the other direction. I launched the boat at Sydspissen, which is the closest convenient place to my house.
On my way along the Eastern shore I went into a marina which I can see from my office window. Next to the Marine is an greenhouse containing a museum about the Polstjerna (Pole Star) a seal hunting ship built in 1949 and one of the last of its class to be built.
Continuing further I visited the waterfront in the centre of Tromsø. The tower in the first picture is part of the Rica hotel in Tromsø and contains a tiny bar with an amazing view. The bar is open to non-residents but I only discovered it recently. Three well-preserved former warehouses also overlook the water in the city centre, the yellow one contains a bar called Driv. Driv's terrace is probably my favourite place to go for a beer in the summer.
After leaving the waterfront I went anti-clockwise around Tromsøya and Hårkøya before making a quick stop on the north tip of Store Grindøy and returning to Sydspissen. Part of the reason I made this trip was to get the engine time up to ten hours so that I could get the 10-hour service done over the winter.
I brefly went ashore on Store Grindøy, but I didn't linger as I wanted to get back to Tromsø before dark.
